Conceding to Kismet A Writer's Plea

Dear Community, Over the past couple of years, I have made many attempts to entice people to buy my work and support and independent writer. So far, my efforts have been futile and as a result I find myself growing deeper in dire straits. I have tried to avoid this route as long as possible, but it seems I have little other recourse. Now I must beg. I know that people donate to various causes or things that do not directly relate to helping a person’s livelihood. Well, I am not asking for dona… Continue

D. R. Collier More on Confederate History Month

from D.R. Collier's A Gravedigger's Journal

www.rememberfortpillow.com

There are a few pro-Union Civil War buffs among the mass of pro-Confederate Civil War buffs. These few are liberal academics of some sort or another. The proclamation of Confederate History Month has kicked off a debate among this set. A snowball effect: the continued propagation of bad history in Confederate History Month in Va. was th

D. R. Collier What If?

from D.R. Collier's A Gravedigger's Journal

www.rememberfortpillow.com

“I got the feeling there's a roadblock down this road. I 'm going take the back roads,” declared my Uncle Roy. The local sheriff's road block was just as much a custom in these parts as driving around with open cans of beer and firearms. It was just a simple matter of inconvenience or not.

I saw nothing up ahead, but at th

DEAN ALLEN JONES A NATION OF IMMIGRANTS?

"We're a nation of immigrants!" In the heat of the current immigration "debate", this slogan/ phrase/belief gets tossed into the fray quite a bit. What does that statement actually mean if you are a Native American, or if, like me, your ancestors were dragged here in chains by the members of some of these immigrant groups? Does it mean that only immigrants have created anything of value here? Does it mean that the contributions of immigrants are more valuable thant those of all others? Does it m… Continue

DEAN ALLEN JONES BEGGING FOR BLOGGING

A friend of mine spent about a year begging me to post some blogs here because he felt that I had some interesting perspectives on the state of the black world in 2010. For a long time, I put him off, insisting that in the current environment, black people in general, including those who consider themselves to be literate and worldly, had no interest in reading anything that wasn't some form of praise song for President Obama.

This sorry state of affairs reminds of the same sic

DEAN ALLEN JONES DESPARATELY SEEKING ENERGY INDEPENDENCE

There has been a lot of talk among politicians, pundits, the man and woman in the street, and especially, from those who represent the fossil fuel industries: coal, oil, and natural gas about the need to "break our dependence" on "foreign oil" by drilling, excavating, and other wise extracting from domestic sources, especially those which happen to be located in areas such as national park lands and coastal waters which have been effectively walled off by protective legislation for many years. C… Continue

Conceding to Kismet Go Slow My A$$

I recently got a response to a blog of my mine with a reply that quite frankly I think I here way too often. I almost ignored it because the woman who wrote 1) responded to the wrong blog and 2) is obviously one of those people who actually does not listen to what others say but simply waits for the opportunity to show others how much she knows ( I encounter that a lot). However, I had to addre

Conceding to Kismet Learning from Sharpe James

I recently got the chance to see a documentary entitled Street Fight chronicling the mayoral race in Newark, NJ, in 2002. Incumbent Sharpe James faced some serious competition from newcomer councilman Corey Booker. Street Fight follows Booker’s campaign as he attempted to run a dignified respectable campaign.

DEAN ALLEN JONES THE TERREBLANCHE FAN CLUB

The latest media reports out of the so-called new South Africa state that nearly two decades after the premature announcement of the "death" of apartheid, the vast majority of South African blacks are still living in destitution without accesss to any of the benefits of their allegedly rich country, while the white minority has become vastly richer by being allowed to maintain its near domination of the local markets and by being able to channel much of its ill-gotten gains into the global ma

DEAN ALLEN JONES YET ANOTHER REASON WHY WE CAN'T ALL JUST GET ALONG

The governor of Virginia announced that he and his cronies are resurrecting Confederate Heritage and History month, an outrage which will occur every April if these people have their way. I wish that I could get used to the way that so many white Americans cannot see anti-Black racism and systems such as the Confederacy and apartheid which thrived on it as the evil that they are instead of either justifying them or making excuses for them. Such behavior makes me question what if any of America's… Continue
